There are many ways to implement this functionality, it only depends on how many users need to connect in the same time and the existing IT network infrastructure.
- Connect using a VPN device to connect from anywhere to the files on the Shared Folders or even to their computer desktop in the office over an encrypted connection (known as VPN – Virtual Private Network). This is reliable and easy to use and it would cost just around $149-199 (the VPN router) plus the setup which takes around 3-4 hours. See Case Study No 3
- Connect using a Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 or 2008 with Remote Web Workplace (built in). This solution is more expensive in the begining, but the server offers a lot more benefits and functionalities, not only the remote access so it's strongly recommended for any office with 3-20 computers.
- Connect using a remote access software such as LogMeIn , GoToMyPc, etc. installed on each desktop computer. This solution will cost a monthly fee though and it's seldom recommended.
